Do you hear “love food, hate waste” and see yourself nodding your head wisely? If so, head down to the various stands across Hammersmith and Fulham for your local cookery demonstration.
From 19 to 27 November, H&F Council is working with Recycle for London to try and encourage residents to save money by not wasting food.
The next events will take place on 22 November from 10am -2pm at the Kings Mall, Hammersmith, 24 November from 10-am-2.30pm at the Lyrics Square Farmers’ Market, Hammersmith, 25 November from 9.30am to 2.30pm at the North End Road Market, Fulham, and 26 November from 9.30am-2.30pm also at the North End Road Market.
Thursday 24 November will bring to Lyric Square a cookery demonstration on how to mix up the foods you would usually throw away to create a delicious meal; there will also be free tasters of the dishes cooked in front of you.
As well as receiving free recipe cards, meal planners and more, you’ll get tips on how to make the most of your leftovers, along with suggestions on how to correctly judge your portion sizes.
You can also make suggestions on tasty meals, and if yours is a winning recipe, you could enjoy an amazing ‘Love Food, Hate Waste’ prize, which will be awarded at the event.
And on top of all of that, if you pledge to cut down on your food waste, you’ll automatically be entered into a prize draw and be in with a chance to win one of ten recipe books that will teach you how to utilize your leftovers.
So enjoy free advice and tools to let you know about ways to reduce the amount of food you waste, which could possibly save you a staggering £600 a year! That means that by decreasing the amount of food waste in H&F, less will have to be paid into tax. No complaints there.
The events will offer fail-proof advice on saving both money and food, as Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, Cllr Greg Smith agrees: “Every bit of food wasted in the borough means that everyone’s money is being wasted through high disposal costs. These events offer real, practical solutions to saving money and food, and residents can pick up some handy cooking tips as well!”
So get stuck in the middle of your borough and see how much you could save! You can find out more by visiting Love Food Hate Waste.
