On Tuesday 27 September the Kensington and Chelsea Foundation will bring together over 600 guests at Saatchi Gallery for an evening of entertainment. Guests will be welcomed by the renowned Ebony Steel Band and local celebrities will be on hand to cheer on the performers from local charities including the Portobello Dance Group.
Some of the Borough’s 400 charities including SMART, a social enterprise to help disabled people into work, and Family Friends which supports struggling families, will be in attendance. Guests will be encouraged to ‘pledge’ anything from £100 to £10,000 to local causes and find out about the impact their gifts will have.
Member of the organising committee Sophie de Schwarzburg-Gunther said: “This party will be great fun. But more importantly, it will showcase the wonderful work being done by local charities in Kensington and Chelsea. The Foundation really takes neighbourhood philanthropy to a whole new level. Many small charities can’t afford their own fundraising or marketing staff so this is an excellent way to raise their profile and raise the much needed cash which can make such a difference to people’s lives.”
Jeremy Raphaely, founder and Director of the Kensington and Chelsea Foundation said: “Buying tickets for this event will show you’re a ‘neighbour’ in the truest sense of the word. You will be able to see the impact of your donation as soon as you leave your home in the morning.

The charities at this event reach out to some of the most excluded minorities, the homeless, the elderly and the disabled. They tackle the most entrenched issues from health and drug abuse, bring the arts to life and help conserve our environment.”
To date, the Foundation has raised £500,000 in charitable funds, out of which £85,000 has come from matched funds, and £50,000 has been invested to form the basis of an endowment fund. It had the honour of being the Mayor’s Charity in 2009/10, the first year of its existence.
